Pears

I've been lamenting the fact that the pears seemed to go completely unappreciated on the tree where they grow so abundantly behind our apartment. For weeks they've been growing, sometimes falling, sometimes browning, without collection. Finally today, I'm staying in the apartment because the train is a little messed up and I don't want to bother with it before the performance this evening, and I start to hear thuds at an increasing rate. I look up from my bed where I am lounging, half dressed due to the heat and leisurely nature of the day, to see a man in the tree, 8 feet from my window, in direct view at a perfect angle for saying hi and sharing a comment about the weather, shaking pears out of the tree.
I've closed my curtains.
